So I've been on a little bit of a spending freeze, which has meant avoiding looking at deals, hence why I haven't posted this month. You know how you can sign up for store emails for sale alerts and other news? Well, I have an email strictly for that purpose and I get hundreds of emails per day. I see these emails and look at a lot of them as "YOU NEED THIS" and it's a true form of FOMO, aka fear of missing out. Some people laugh at the idea of a shopping addiction but it's real. Sometimes I think of myself as a true enabler, and I want to have some transparency in that.
I love to shop. I love to find good deals while I shop which sometimes makes my shopping a little worse. I spend extra time scouring stores and emails for the best price out there and because of that I find all sorts of things I wasn't looking for in the first place. I'm not the kind of person who buys 15 purses, just because, but I definitely do buy stuff we don't truly need that just ends up sitting around. I'm working on buying less. I'm lucky that, as a stay at home mom, my husband doesn't limit me but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't limit myself. That is why I have worked on that spending freeze.
I bring this whole subject up because this topic has been brought up semi recently in a close mom group of mine and it put a different perspective on things for me. Social media has made the need for things, especially with the picture perfect, lifestyle bloggers on Instagram. The thing to remember with many of those is that they're being paid to have that type of look. The clothes that their children are wearing, the toys that they're playing with, and everything in between can be sponsored by companies. I don't know what goes on in their every day life but I would like to think that their perfect white couches never stay white and when they lay their head down on their trendy, expensive bedding, they worry about things just like everyone else.
